Neil Brooks

The infamous ‘Mean Machine’ Neil Brooks, a former Australian Olympic swimmer and gold medalist winner, has forged a commendable career as a leading sports anchor, host and commentator. Recently returning from 2 months in Europe as a Caddy for Peter Senior, the newly svelte Brooks (he shed 38kgs) is one of Australia’s most talented sportsmen.
Neil Brooks’ diverse sports knowledge has enabled him to work across a wide range of sports. He has commentated at 3 Olympic Games in Swimming, Water Polo, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball as well as the Nagano Winter Olympics which included Men’s and Women’s Aerials, Men’s and Women’s Down Hill, Slalom, Super G and 4 man Bobsled. He has also called AFL games nationally for 5 years and was the Monday to Friday Sports Presenter for Sydney’s ATN 7 6pm Bulletin.
Neil’s hosting highlights include being host for his own football show Brooksy’s Footy Show, which ran for three years, hosting a Getaway-style program in WA called Wild West and co hosting The Games with Tracey Holmes as a lead up show to the 2000 Olympic Games.
Neil Brooks’ talents extend beyond hosting and commentary, with a Degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas, Neil is also experienced in writing and producing. Neil has compiled numerous specials for Sports World and even won News story of the year at the annual Football Media Wards. Neil has also been awarded a Logie Award for the call of Kieran Perkins’ 1500m win in Atlanta. A favourite sports speaker or motivational speaker, Neil enjoys presenting at all event types.
Neil Brooks’ sporting achievements are numerous, being the only male athlete in any sport to win 3 Gold medals at the Brisbane 1982 Commonwealth Games, winning Silver and Bronze in Los Angeles in 1984 and winning both Gold and Silver in Edinburgh in 1986.
Neil’s commentating career began in 1980 with a cadetship with Channel 7 TVW Perth reading sport three nights a week for 5 years. Swimming champion Neil Brooks is a veteran of both international competition and sports broadcasting.
