Steve Bedwell
Steve Bedwell is a television host, a radio personality, a producer, an ARIA nominated recording artist, an author and a very funny comedian.
Steve is probably best known in radio circles as being one half of the highly successful Melbourne Triple M breakfast duo, Timbo & Bedders. With his on air partner Tim Smith, the duo created a successful morning show The Squirrel Grippers and just one year later they were given the Breakfast slot. Timbo & Bedders owned breakfast radio from 1998 until the end of 2001 and were nominated and finalists for several RAWARDs including Best On-Air Team.
Steve has hosted many successful programs branded with his name; Steve Bedwell and the Crew on SA-FM breakfast, The Steve Bedwell Experience and The Steve Bedwell Sunday Brunch on Melbourne’s Fox FM. Prior to hosting his own programs Steve was a writer performer for Triple J and 2-Day FM breakfast programs. He has also enjoyed regular guest roles on programs including Martin Molloy Drive syndicated nationally through Austereo.
Television has always played a huge part in Steve’s career. As a writer/performer Steve took on the role of Head Writer for the Artist Services produced channel seven program Tonight Live With Steve Vizard. He became a regular guest on the program and part of the on screen 'family’. Steve then advanced as a writer for the sketch comedy program, Full Frontal during the 1994 and 1995 seasons of the show. During 1995 Steve was a host and feature performer on the ABC stand up comedy series Something Hot Before Bed. He was also a writer for the FOXTEL program soap comedy Shark Bay.
In 1996 Steve co-host with Glenn Robbins and Lavinia Nixon, a series of chat show/discussion shorts for FOXTEL’S Comedy Channel. Steve also produced the pilot and then the show Eric Bana Live. In 1997 Steve became host of his own show on the Comedy Channel, Bedders Time, a series of celebrity interviews and stand up comedy pieces. Bedders Time ran from 1997 right through until the end of 1998 and gave Steve the chance to interview some of the country's highest profiled celebrities.
In 1999 Steve flew to L.A & New York for the Comedy Channel to interview, Jay Lenno, Connan O'Brien and Chris Rock, he was the first Australian to interview these superstar comedians face to face.
The year 2000 saw Steve in a key role on the channel 9 show Russell Gilbert Live as the creative consultant and guest presenter. In 2003 and 2004 Steve worked as a writer for the TV Week Logie Awards, and was responsible for the critically acclaimed cold-opener from the 2003 awards. Steve has recently had his second book published, an unauthorised biography on the life of Steve Vizard, titled Vizard Uncut the 600 page book took over a year of exhaustive research and writing to complete.
Steve Bedwell has also proven to be an excellent corporate comedian and host having made LINFOX, COCA-COLA, TOYOTA, GE CAPITAL and NESTLE PETERS laugh until it hurts. He has hosted functions for the JNF and UIA, as well as regular Master of Ceremonies for the annual Make-A-Wish Foundation ball. In terms of corporate events, Steve is a specialist, he reads the crowd beautifully and always leaves them laughing, his skill to MC an event and stick to a tight running schedule is 1st class as a result of his years on radio broadcasting and passion for working live.
