Mary Coustas

As a writer/performer Mary Coustas began working with the Handspan Theatre Company. She then appeared in the record breaking theatrical shows Wogs Out of Work, Acropolis Now - Live on Stage, Wog-A-Rama and her own one woman show Waiting for Effie which toured nationally throughout Australia. Mary also starred in the critically acclaimed Effie X-Posed, which played an extended season in Melbourne in 1997.
In 1998 Mary took on the role of a dog in the New York comedy Sylvia for the Melbourne Theatre Company. It received rave reviews and played to a sold out season at The Wharf Theatre Sydney.
She has appeared as the unstoppable Effie in five seasons of the TV sitcom series Acropolis Now, as well as writing eight episodes. She also appeared as Constable Julie Makris in the police drama series Skirts, Good Guys Bad Guys and most recently as lawyer Louise Arden in the award winning drama Wildside.
Mary also hosted the televised Australian Film Institute Awards in 1998.
Mary’s film credits include Mull, for which she received an AFI nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Nirvana Street Murder, and Hercules Returns. As Effie she worked on Melbourne's FOX FM breakfast team and recorded the hit single "Amigos Para Siempre" (Friends for Life) with Norman Gunston and appeared as guest host for The Norman Gunston Show.
In 1993 Mary Coustas won the Logie Award and Variety Heart Club Award for Best Comedy Performer. , Mary continues to perform Effie and various other characters for television specials and other events. Her infectious comedic talents ensures a vibrant and engaging entertainment experience including the role of Master of Ceremonies with a difference.
