Gerry Gannon

Following a 10-year career as a journalist and broadcaster with ABC Radio, Gerry Gannon left to pursue a career that would bring him closer to audiences and allow him to explore parts of the world he could not do from a radio studio.

Time spent in PR allowed Gerry the opportunity to travel and to get to know the business sector both in Australia and South East Asia. This led to Gerry establishing Indonesia’s first English language radio station in Bali for a Perth/Indonesian joint venture partnership.

Gerry also took an interest in the not-for-profit sector and has since been elected as President to the Council of the Royal Flying Doctor Service for two years, in addition to serving on the Board of Tourism Council WA, Access 31 Television, Kids Help Line and was appointed Vice President of the Australia Malaysia Business Council WA. Gerry is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a former member of the Swan Bells Foundation.

Gerry Gannon now operates Gannon Media Services providing PR, marketing, compéring, writing, communications training and broadcasting services to domestic and international clients. Since 1994 he has carried out work for a number of Western Australian government agencies including the Department of Commerce and Trade, the Department of Education, the WA Tourism Commission and AgWest.

He maintains an interest in broadcasting through his association with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) where he provides a weekly Q&A to “The PM Session.”

Gerry Gannon has a special interest in tourism and is regarded as an effective marketer of tourism products and he has built up an extensive network of media contacts throughout South East Asia.

He has presented a series of television programs on the Westlink network for the Department of Commerce and Trade on the theme of Sustaining Communities. He has been retained as a TV presenter for the TAFE Communications Network. Together with journalistic colleagues Roger Martin (The Australian) and John McNamara (ABC 720 Drive) he presents “WA News Week” on Access 31 Television in Perth.
