James Bradfield Moody
Dr James Moody is the Executive Director, Development with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Agency, one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world. In this role he is responsible for CSIRO’s Business Development activities, international footprint and connections in the innovation system.
James is a regular panel member of ABC TV’s The New Inventors and is the co-Author of “The Sixth Wave: How to succeed in a resource-limited world”.
James sits on a number of advisory boards, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics and previously the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. He is also a board member of the Brisbane Institute in Queensland, is a trustee of the Australian Museum and was previously a board member of the National Australia Day Council.
In January 2005, James was selected by the World Economic Forum as one of their Young Global Leaders and was also nominated by the Forum as a Global Leader of Tomorrow in 2003. He is also a member of the Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Intellectual Property System. He has been named Australian Young Engineer of the Year, Young Australian of the Year in Science and Technology and one of the Australian Financial Review’s Young Executives of the Year.
James is also an Australian National Commissioner for UNESCO and was previously the co-facilitator and Australian representative of the 40-strong youth advisory council to the UN Environment Program (UNEP). He was a founder and co-chair of the Space Generation Advisory Council in support of the UN Program on Space Applications and a member of the Science and Technology delegation to the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. In 2001 he was Executive Secretary and member of the UN taskforce on Science and Technology for the Millennium Development Goals.
Trained as an electrical engineer, James was previously Chief Systems Engineer for FedSat, the first Australian Satellite to be launched in 30 years. For his doctoral work James undertook research on the application to the international and Australian satellite industries of Complex Product Systems (high-cost, complex systems embodying customised, interacting sub-assemblies and components).
