Lincoln Hall
Lincoln Hall is one of Australia’s best known mountaineers, and the author of Dead Lucky, the just-published book of his famous and miraculous survival on Mt. Everest in May 2006. Hall had reached the summit, but on the way down became seriously ill, and despite the efforts of the Sherpas with him, he collapsed and was declared dead.
His body was left high on the mountain but miraculously he lived to tell the story – a story of willpower, survival and mystery, from a deep personal perspective and insight – with inspiration and thought-provoking lessons and insights for all walks of life.
His unique understanding of risk comes from 20 years of alternating between adventure travel guiding and corporate training programs. He has climbed over 40 mountains in 7 countries, and has been awarded an Order of the Medal of Australia (OAM).
Lincoln Hall’s bestselling book, White Limbo, the First Australian Ascent of Mt Everest, is now in its third edition.
As well as tales of his own adventures Lincoln has written documentary scripts, guidebooks, biographies, a novel, and has been the editor of two magazines. Six documentaries have been made about Lincoln’s expeditions. Two films are about his 2006 Everest ordeal: NBC’s Emmy Nominated Rescue on Top of the World, and multi-award winning Miracle on Everest, which premiered to 900,000 viewers on ABC TV in Australia in 2008. Based on his book, Dead Lucky, the film continues to be screened internationally on TV and at film festivals around the world.
His latest book (and 9th title) Alive in the Death Zone, won a CBCA Book of the Year Award in 2009.
Lincoln Hall is a founding Director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of Himalayan peoples and their environments. A resident of the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, he is a member of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Advisory Committee.
These perspectives bring an extra dimension to Lincoln’s keynote speeches and other presentations.
