Angela Pippos's Biography

At the age of eight Angela Pippos threw away her ballet shoes and picked up a shiny new netball for the first time and this was the beginning of her love affair with sport. She shared her sporting passion with her brother but she never set out to become a sports journalist.

Armed with an Honours degree in Politics from the University of Adelaide and a Journalism degree she was determined to give the Canberra Press Gallery a shake. After three years cutting her teeth as a researcher and reporter with ABC Television in Adelaide she was lured across the border to take up a sports reporting position in Melbourne. Although it didn’t fit in with her plans of becoming a political journalist she took the plunge and it paid off. Within a few months Angela Pippos was presenting the sports segment at the 7pm News desk on weekends and then was promoted to weeknights alongside Ian Henderson.
At the start of 2004 ABC management decided to make Sydney-based commentator Peter Wilkins the face of ABC Sport Monday to Friday. This decision sparked community outrage and both sides of politics joined the fight to keep the local sports segment the way it was.
In 2006 Angela Pippos became a published author. Her first book “The Goddess Advantage” loosely follows her life during the 2005 AFL season. “It’s as much about love, loyalty and friendship as it is about the great game of Australian Rules football” she said. Now working with a scriptwriter Angela is working on turning The Goddess Advantage” into a mini-series.
After thirteen full-time years at the ABC Angela has made the decision this year to go part-time so she can devote more time to her writing. Her second book is a work of fiction. Cutting back her hours at the ABC has also frees Angela Pippos up to MC and be a guest speaker at many more events, which is a passion she enjoys.
