Testimonials for Anna Meares

"Anna was such a lovely person, and had a wonderful story of sheer determination that moved us all"

Enterprise & Training Company Limited

"Anna was brilliant, she was warm, professional, engaging, motivating, emotional, genuine and funny.  Anna had the room captured, she ran over time but that was absolutely fine because guests were loving her.  Anna exceeded my expectations.  We have received so many comments from guests.  Anna worked the room talking to the guests at pre-dinner drinks and around the boardroom table (50 people). Anna met with me before 29/9 to view the room, talk through the event and personally sign her book, which each guest received."

Anna Meares's Biography

Anna Meares is considered by many to be the greatest cyclist of all time and in Rio became the first Australian athlete to ever win four medals in four different Olympic Games. Anna has collected 18 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 10 bronze medals at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games level. Anna was Australia's flag bearer at the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as being the Team Captain. She truly is a gracious athlete and an inspirational winner.

From humble beginnings in a small Queensland mining town, Anna Meares rose to prominence through her skill as a cyclist. She won gold for Australia at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, setting a new world record time in the Women’s 500 metre time trial. She also received an Order of Australia medal for her achievement.  Tragedy struck in January 2008 when a cycling accident at the World Cup left her with a hairline fracture in her C2 vertebrae as well as other injuries. She was back on her bike within weeks and managed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics. In August 2008, she won the silver medal at the Olympics in the Women’s Individual Sprint, followed by another gold at the London Olympics in 2012.

At the Athens Olympics in 2004 Anna claimed her first Olympic gold medal, setting a new world record in the process. Only minutes earlier, Yonghua Jiang from China set broke the existing record, meaning Anna had to better that new mark to get the gold. She succeeded, and also went on to claim a bronze medal in the 200m sprint final.

In 2005 Anna Meares received an OAM in the Australia Day Honours List and in 2008 she was recognised as the Australian Cyclist of the Year and the People's Choice Cyclist of the Year.

Anna Meares suffered life-threatening injuries after a terrible accident in the third round of the World Cup circuit in Los Angeles in 2008. Doctors said she was two millimetres from being paralysed from the chin down. It was Anna's dream to ride in Beijing and she was back on her bike just 10 days after her fall. With hard work, discipline and determination she recovered enough to qualify a spot for Australia, going on to win a silver medal just seven months later.

2009 ended on a high note and the 2010 season beacons. With 4 world cups, World Championships, Commonwealth Games just to name a few, there are a lot of busy times ahead. Stay tuned and follow Anna's races and progress. Anna’s gold winning performance in London 2012 inspired her to take on Rio de Janiero Olympics with dedication and commitment.  In 2016, Anna won bronze at the Rio games.

Anna’s story is one of courage and inspiration, tragedy and triumph. An inspiring speaker, she engages with her audiences to share her story.
