Anna Rose's Biography

Anna Rose is a sought-after speaker and passionate presenter on climate change, leadership, youth engagement and sustainability. She has delivered hundreds of speeches to a wide range of audiences – from a 16,000 person stadium in Perth alongside the Dalai Lama, to schools, community groups and companies.

Anna is an Australian author, activist and environmentalist who became a climate change campaigner after her grandparent's farm in North Western NSW was severely affected by the drought.

Perceptive, passionate and determined, Anna is the co-founder (and Chair until early 2013) of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC), now one of Australia's largest youth organisations with over 70,000 members. She also is a former Environment Minister's joint Young Environmentalist of the Year.

Anna is perhaps most well-known for taking high-profile climate sceptic, former Finance Minister Nick Minchin, on a journey around the world with the goal of helping him accept the science of climate change. The ABC documentary, called I Can Change Your Mind on Climate Change, aired in April 2012 followed by a Q&A special with billionaire mining magnate Clive Palmer and other guests.

Anna's book Madlands is based on that journey and has received high praise from the media, authors, politicians and, of course, scientists and other environmentalists.

Anna Rose has had a passion for social and environmental justice from a young age; while still at school in Newcastle she set up recycling, composting and a sport called ‘environmental campaigning'. Later, Anna worked with the National Union of Students working with students across 37 universities to win clean energy victories. As campus after campus implemented ambitious climate change policies, her motto became "those who say it can't be done should get out of the way of those already doing it".

Anna co-authored the book Future by Us, is a former editor of Australia's largest student paper, and holds a first class honours degree in Arts (Asian Studies) and Law. While studying and working in the US, she trudged through snow for the Obama campaign explaining to Americans that the policies of their government actually affect other countries.

Anna Rose is a Fellow of the International Youth Foundation and was named one of Sydney's 100 Most Influential People by the Sydney Morning Herald. She is the former climate campaigner at GetUp and works with Sydney-based strategy and consultancy agency Make Believe, helping Australia's major not-for-profits do good, better.
