In 1991 Billy Brownless established himself as one of Geelong's most important players, when he filled the void left by the then retired Gary Ablett, kicking 81 goals and gaining All-Australian selection. Despite four Grand Final appearances, Brownless has never played in a winning side, going close in 1989 when he played at full forward in Geelong’s epic Grand Final against Hawthorn. However, Billy Brownless had to contend with a number of injuries in the final few years of his career and at the end of the 1997 season Brownless announced his retirement, finishing the career of one of Geelong’s most effervescent characters.

Billy Brownless was an exciting forward for Geelong for over ten years. Rated third on Geelong’s all-time goal-kicking list behind Gary Ablett and Doug Wade, Brownless initially established himself as full forward during the team’s free-scoring days in the late eighties and early nineties.

Billy Brownless now pursues an active media career with involvement on high profile programs such as Channel 9’s The Footy Show and Sunday Footy Show, as well as commentary and hosting on Sports AFL programs. A great character on and off air, Billy Brownless continues to rank as a hit with audiences everywhere. The former high-flying Geelong forward is best known for his decade long involvement with the- Nine Network's Logie award winning program The Footy Show. Billy Brownless is a regular panel member, previewing the upcoming round of AFL while also holding down a regular role in the show's soap parodies such as The House of Bulger and Bullet and Gunn.

Also a member of the Sunday Footy Show team, Brownless lends his talents to radio. His sense of humour and keen sporting knowledge combine to provide listeners with some fast-paced on-air action. Billy Brownless joined fellow country boys Garry Lyon and Tim Watson in 2003 to start Up Country Punt, a radio show for footy fans across rural Australia. With over 20 stations nationally, the weekly show continues to grow in popularity.

Since retiring, Billy Brownless has furthered his position as one of the game's most likeable blokes with an active media career featuring on such high-profile programs as Channel 9's The Footy Show and Sunday Footy Show and Triple M Melbourne's The Rush Hour with James Brayshaw, in addition to commentary and hosting duties on AFL coverage.

One of Geelong’s most effervescent characters, Billy is married to Nicky and has four kids – Lucy, Ruby, Oscar and Max.
