Diane Smith-Gander's Biography

Diane Smith-Gander is a Director of Wesfarmers Limited, Transfield Services Limited, CBH Group Limited and of the National Broadband Network Company Limited and a past Chairperson of the Australian Sports Drug Agency. She is a member of the Audit Committee at Wesfarmers, the audit and investment committees of CBH, the Human Resources and Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Committees at Transfield. Diane chairs the People and Performance committee of NBN Co. and is a member of NBN Co's Implementation Committee.


Diane joined the University of Western Australia Business School Board in mid-2011.

Diane has an impressive track record in senior roles across diverse industries and brings a depth of experience from these roles to her keynote presentations.

Diane is outgoing Chair of the Board of Basketball Australia Limited, the peak body governing the sport in Australia. She developed her passion for basketball during a successful playing career which saw her represent Western Australia.

Prior to embarking on a career as an independent director, Diane held senior executive roles at Westpac Banking Corporation in retail bank management. Her last role at Westpac was as the Group Executive responsible for IT and Operations. She was a partner at McKinsey & Company in Washington DC and New Jersey serving clients in diverse industries globally. Diane continues to provide advice to McKinsey in Asia on merger management topics.

Diane is also the operator of a commercial vineyard in Margaret River where she grows chardonnay, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon grapes.

Born and now resident in Perth, Western Australia, Diane holds an MBA from the University of Sydney and a B. Economics from the University of Western Australia. A Fellow of the AICD, Diane is a graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course.
