Dr Craig Mudge's Biography

Dr Craig Mudge is an International technologist and leading authority on informatics. Dr Mudge is on the list of Australia’s Top 50 Thinkers and acknowledged by Silicon Valley’s Churchill Club as “ .. consistently exhibiting an unusual ability to recognise and articulate important trends before many others”, Craig Mudge’s presentations take complicated topics and present them in a straightforward manner. His keynotes present powerful context for executives and policy makers and help them see the trends, both technology and business, that are drivers in their strategy development.


Recent successful strategy work for boards, CIOs, and CEOs in technology businesses, mining, and economic development has involved bringing the power of the digital world (sensors everywhere and low-cost reliable cloud computing) to bear so that entities better understand their customers and become more adaptive by application of Google-style analytics.

An ANU graduate, with a PhD in computer science from UNC at Chapel Hill, he was a computer designer at DEC (now Hewlett Packard) in Boston, a founder and CEO of computer chip company Austek Microsystems Ltd, which produced several breakthrough signal processing chips, and Lab Director of the Computer Science Lab at the legendary Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC). Currently he leads www.pacific-challenge.com, a strategy consultancy delivering business value from technology to its clients in the private and public sectors, and has a half-time position in CSIRO, responsible for strategic initiatives in ICT and mining. Craig holds six patents. He has held university positions at Caltech, Carnegie Mellon University, Macquarie and Flinders Universities. His formal management education occurred at the AGSM and Harvard Business School.

Craig’s achievements have been recognised in various honours including Australian Centenary Medal for service to Australian society in microelectronics and telecommunications, Fellowship in the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, induction into the Pearcey Hall of Fame for distinguished lifetime achievement and contributions to the growth of the ICT industry, and Fellowship in the Australian Institute for Company Directors.
