South Australian born and bred, Georgina was educated at Adelaide’s Seymour College, and went on to study at Magill College of Advanced Education (now the Magill campus of the University of SA), obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism).
The eldest of three children, she says she never really thought of any other career than journalism – “I like people and I’m a sticky beak! What other career could I possibly have?”
Georgina McGuinness is an official Ambassador for the Australia Refugee Association as well as a volunteer in their weekly Family Support program. Georgina is a member of their emergency support team to help families in crisis.
Georgina takes part in a fortnightly commitment as a driver to deliver the meals for Unley Meals on Wheels. Georgina, who began working in the Channel Nine newsroom after her graduation in January 1987, spent a year “on the road as a reporter” before being offered the presenter’s role. She moved to the newsroom desk in 1988.
Georgina is a great MC, host and regular keynote speaker.
