Jeff Newman's Biography

Jeff Newman commenced his career in broadcasting thirty five years ago, and is today recognised as one of the leading communicators in Western Australia. Not only does his career include success as a television presenter for Perth’s Channel Seven, but also considerable management experience in the electronic media. This broad experience in the vital field of communications has made him one of the most sought after experts in the media industry.
With the launch of Perth’s second TV station in the late sixties, Jeff was one of the first hired as a TV presenter, newsreader and variety program host…..including his very own program called the Jeff Newman Show.
A year later he joined Channel 7 Perth, presenting the top rating quiz show ‘Reach for the Stars’. This was followed by the nationally acclaimed program ‘It’s Academic’ which had a record run of eight years and recognised Jeff as one of the best game show hosts in Australia. Channel Seven reintroduced this program, with Jeff as host, in 2002.
Apart from his currently nightly appearances on Channel 7’s news/weather Jeff Newman has co-produced the station’s annual Telethon programs for the past 30 years earning him the title Mr Telethon.
Until recently Jeff was Chairman of the Variety Club of Western Australia, and was awarded an order of Australia Medal for his services to the community. He was also the national Chairman of the Variety Club of Australia, and is an international ambassador for the Variety Club’s international organisation. He was also awarded Rotary Club of Australia’s highest award, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow in 1995.
Jeff Newman has also won five Logie Awards for Best Western Australian TV talent.
He is also recognised as one of Perth’s leading master of ceremonies and has hosted many prestigious government and corporate events including Western Australian Tourism Awards, W.A. Import & Export Awards, State Government Insurance Office annual AFL awards lunch, W.A. Hotels & Hospitality Industry Awards for Excellence, American Express Gold Plate Awards, Lexus Awards for Excellence annual dinner, and has been MC for all of the West Coast Eagles AFL corporate events for the past ten years.
Jeff Newman recently retired in August 2009 from Channel Seven and is highly regarded as one of Perth's most popular host's and presenters.
