Jonathan Coleman's Biography

Jonathan (Jono) Coleman started life in the media business as a copywriter/producer for Leo Schofield Advertising (Schofield Sherbon & Baker) and John Singleton Advertising.

At one time he held the role of Creative Director at 2WS, ironic given he is now broadcasting The Jono & Dano Show nationally on the Classic Hits Network for ARN (Australian Radio Network) including the Sydney flagship station now known as WSFM.
It was during this time he met Simon Townsend and a role as a larrikin report on Simon Townsend’s Wonder World followed for the next 5 years.
It was the 80’s and Australian media was buoyant. ABC radio’s 2JJ signed Jono Coleman for late night Saturday show. They assigned a panel operator, Ian “Dano” Rogerson and after a couple of links, the first Australian top rating male duo was born – Jono & Dano.
By the time Jono & Dano ended their 80’s radio work together on Triple M, they held 38% of the audience for their top rating night-time show.
As a duo, Jono & Dano headed into TV and brilliant 80’s broadcasting like Have a Go, Late Night with Jono & Dano and Saturday Morning Live on the Seven Network as well as Wavelength on the Nine Network.
In 1990, the Coleman family left Sydney and moved to London. This would be the start of 16 years of top commercial breakfast radio, regular TV and feature writing which led to Jono being credited as one of Australia’s most successful exports to the UK.
Jono Coleman never lost touch with Australia and was a regular contributor to programs like Sunrise and the Today show, specials for The Comedy Channel and through his long time association with MCM Media recording shows like Cover To Cover ’88, Planet Rock, Blues Rocksat, and the award winning My Generation which he hosted for over 5 years.
Upon his return to Sydney at the end of 2006, Jono collaborated with MCM once again to create the Jonathan Coleman Experience with Julia Zemiro as co-host on the Classic Hits Network.
In 2009 and after 30 years since their first broadcast, Jono & Dano reunited in national drive time (4-7pm) for Classic Hits. This week, MCM Media and ARN confirmed Jono & Dano will be back hosting national drive in 2011.
