Testimonials for Jonathan Reeve

It’s no longer about the ‘big eating the small’. It’s ALL about the ‘fast eating the slow’. What I’ve always loved about Retail/FMCG is those businesses that prevail always keep PRODUCT and CUSTOMER front of mind. Thanks to Jonathan Reeve for hosting today’s awesome AMAZON MASTERCLASS in Melbourne.

Jonathan Reeve's Biography

In an age where the traditional shopping trip is being disrupted by e-commerce, Jonathan Reeve gives retailers the strategies to stay ahead. The 25-year history of e-commerce shows that the most important element is fulfilment, the costly and complex operations that start after a sale is made online.

As a specialist in the field, Jonathan realised fulfilment was crucial to generating repeat business and sustaining profitability, but is often given a lower priority than making the sale itself. So, he decided to do something about it by supporting businesses to thrive in e-commerce fulfilment.

As someone who has developed both retail strategy and led the teams who deliver the service to customers, Jonathan's perspective is unique. He’s worked in retail businesses on three continents for over 15 years, and was part of the team that developed the operating model for Tesco.com, a global pioneer of online grocery retail. Jonathan is also the author of Retail's Last Mile: Why Online Shopping Will Exceed Our Wildest Predictions, which explores the disruption of store retail by online shopping.

Jonathan has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University (UK) and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD (France). Before setting up his own Melbourne-based practice, Jonathan held roles with leading organisations including Aussie Farmers Direct, Coles, Tesco, Goldman Sachs and Arkwright Consulting.

Retail’s Last Mile Book by Jonathan Reeve – ‘Why Online Shopping Will Exceed Our Wildest Predictions’

The disruption of store retail by online shopping has only just begun. Few retailers are ready for the changes ahead.

Some customers shop in stores because they love to, but mostly they do it because there is no convenient alternative. This is changing. Technology which enables customers to make smart digital decisions and a wave of innovation in logistics are combining to solve the challenge of “retail’s last mile”: how to profitably sell and deliver products to customers shopping from home.

Online retail expert Jonathan Reeve forecasts that lastmile innovations will see shopping online overtake shopping in stores within 20 years. Few players have grasped the extent to which their business models and mindsets need to change. The Amazons of this world have blazed the trail and a small number of retailers are keeping up. Most are well behind and have underestimated the threat. Reeve urges us to get ready before it’s too late.

Jonathan has three keynote presentations which can also be delivered as part of a workshop to engage your team in collaborative and practical discussion on the disruption of retail and what to do.

In the next year, Amazon will start to launch physical retail operations in Australia. It's likely the biggest event the retail sector has seen in twenty years, up there with the takeover of Coles by Wesfarmers and the entry of foreign retailers generally. In the face of this epic challenge, retailers are floundering. Overwhelm, Amazon-fatigue and flat-out denial are common responses.

Get ready for a gripping presentation as Jonathan poses the million-dollar question to his audiences: how ready are you to respond to this threat? Understanding Amazon's strategies is the all-important first step. This brilliant keynote also highlights the big opportunities businesses need to seize to ready themselves for Amazon's entry into the market, and continue to prosper.

Drawing on the latest thinking and weaving in pragmatic learning from case studies, he'll show you where to focus, defend, exit, or partner for future success.

Disruption is a widely used but often misunderstood term. It's a buzzword bandied about by the media and industries when referring to any 'Big Change'. With high-profile businesses like Uber, Airbnb and Amazon on the scene, it's hard not to think of disruption as something that's dramatic, instantaneous and transformative. But what does it really mean? And how can understanding the predictable patterns (yes, predictable) of disruption keep you ahead of your game no matter what sector you're in?

In this illuminating presentation, Jonathan will clarify exactly what disruption is and how it's different from other forms of innovation. He provides the precious tools needed to help leaders from any sector confront their fears and doubts to take advantage of vital – often

inevitable – disruption opportunities. A session that's as surprising as it is powerful.

The imminent arrival of players like Amazon in Australia will change the retail landscape forever. But one thing's clear. Most leaders remain unconfident about how they can even begin to compete with increased customer expectations around flexible fulfilment. Same-day or next-day delivery, delivery time-slots, third party collection points, lockers, ship-from-supplier and ship-from-store are just some of the options customers already expect. And what's next as Amazon continues its relentless quest for the next big thing?

It's a not to be-missed session as Jonathan builds on the themes of his book Retail's Last Mile to explore the innovations and challenges to come – and how best-practice retailers around the world are finding ways to profitably give customers the fulfilment options they want. He equips Australian retailers with the arsenal they need to face one of the biggest operational and financial challenges of their time.
