Josh Thomas's Biography

Popular comedian, writer and tv personality, Josh Thomas is best known for his appearances on Generation Y and Talkin’ Bout Your Generation.  Quick wit and humorous, Josh makes a great MC, host or comedian.

Josh Thomas has more than 250,000 twitter followers and 250,000 Facebook fans. His podcast 'Josh Thomas and Friend' is the most popular independent Podcast in Australia.

In 2012 Josh wrote and starred in his own series, Please Like Me, which premiered on ABC2 in February 2013. The six part series is a wonderfully awkward and honest comedy drama that draws on Josh's stand up and life. The Weekend Australian said that Please Like Me was a ”..very clever coming-of-age comedy...He really is quite a singular talent and may just turn into one of our great TV stars."

In 2013, brand new US cable network Pivot.tv picked up Please Like Me and used it to launch the station.  Josh found his face on busses and billboards all over the United States and before the show even went to air, Pivot announced in association with ABC2 that they had ordered a 10 part second season slated for 2014.

The show aired on 1 August to critical acclaim across America and was listed as one of the “Best TV Shows of 2013” according to Entertainment Weekly, The New Yorker, Time Magazine and the The Los Angeles Times to name a few.   Before he had his very own series Josh appeared several times on The Project, was a regular favourite on Network Ten’s Good News Week, performed stand up on Rove, made a clumsy but OK appearance on ABC's QandA, hosted the prestigious televised 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and found his way into every second lounge room as the Generation Y Team Captain on Network Ten’s hit show Talkin’ ‘bout Your Generation.

In 2010, he was nominated for a TV Week Logie Award for Most Popular New Male Talent and won the GQ Comedian of the Year Award.

Josh started as a stand up comedian picking up the gong for the Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer at the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for his first ever solo stand-up show, Please Like Me. His 2010 show, Surprise, was nominated for the prestigious Barry Award for most outstanding show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

He has now sold out rather large solo seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival and Sydney Opera House as well as performing at the invitation only festivals Smithwicks Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland and the Geel Comedy Festival in Belgium. He was also the curator of the Brisbane Comedy Festival for its first two years.

An audio recording of Josh’s 2009 stand-up show, Things I’ve Said Before was in the Top 10 on Australian iTunes the week of its release and his 2010 stand-up show was released on DVD, and was nominated for Best Comedy Release at the 2011 ARIA Awards.

Josh really enjoys cooking. He was on 'Celebrity Masterchef' but his Italian Meringue didn't work and in 2012 he was on Foxtel’s Celebrity Come Dine With Me on the Lifestyle Channel.
