Lady Jam 's Biography

Senani has been singing and song writing for 2 decades. As an independent artist, her music has received airplay Australia wide on FM radio and TV. Her music incorporates a fusion of funk/soul and modern Jazz with a groove based feel. After a successful show at the Metro in 2005 with a larger 7 piece band, Senani was keen to change her sound to better serve her initial vision of Jazz/soul/funk fusion.
In early 2006 she formed her current multi-cultural line-up which has evolved and now includes Thomas Dodd on Electric Guitar, Junichi on Electric Bass and Timothy Williams on Drums. Occasionally saxophone, Keyboard, trumpet and percussion are added to the line up. The band mixes up the sound in various songs using Funk grooves, Jazz beats and Modern soul. Her repertoire includes originals as well as covers such as 70’s funk and soul (motown), 80’s, 90’s and some latest hits. Artists that the band covers include Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Jamiroquai, Sarah Vaughan, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Jacksons, Motown hits, Standard Jazz depending on venue requirements.
The band’s stamping ground is inner city Sydney where they have played to admiring audiences at various clubs, pubs, hotels and private functions (booked as “Lady Jam”). Venues played in, include, The Piano Room, Bondi Iceburg Bar, The Metro, The civic Hotel, The Australian Museum, New Orleans Café, Jazushi, RSL clubs (Sydney wide) etc. Senani is currently writing, producing and recording her latest Funk/Soul album which is due for release in early 2010 and is collaborating with Musical Genius’s, Adam Sofo and Paul Gray.
