Samantha Armytage's Biography

Samantha’s wealth of television experience rewarded her with a career-defining role as co-host of the Network Seven’s award-winning breakfast show, Sunrise, in June 2013.

In Samantha’s 15 years working as a journalist in the Australian media, she has covered some of our biggest, breaking news stories.

Samantha graduated from Charles Sturt University, Bathurst with a major in Broadcast Journalism and minors in American Politics and Marketing. Sam started her career at WIN News in Canberra before moving to Sky News in the Parliament House Press Gallery, as political correspondent in 2002.

Samantha began her media career at WIN Television in Canberra in 1999, as a news reporter and presenter in Canberra. Following this she joined Sky News Australia in 2002 where she was chief political reporter. In April 2003, Samantha joined the Seven Network after being noticed by the network executives while covering the 2003 Canberra Bushfires.

In December 2004, she landed her first major presenting role, filling-in as presenter on Seven News Sydney over the Summer non-ratings period. Following the non-ratings period she had stints presenting the national Seven Morning News bulletin, the national late news updates, and filling in as presenter of Seven News Sydney.

In 2005 and 2006, Armytage was the regular fill-in presenter for Chris Bath as the Friday & Weekend presenter on Seven News Sydney. In June 2007, Samantha Armytage was appointed co-host of Weekend Sunrise alongside Andrew O'Keefe.

Over her career, Samantha has reported in many countries on many topics. She’s reported from East Timor, Christmas Island, New Zealand, the United States and the UK and has reported on many of Australia’s national disasters from the QLD flood crisis in 2010, the northern-NSW floods in 2005 and the deadly Canberra bushfires in 2003.

When she’s not at work, Samantha loves travelling. She enjoys golf and tennis, is a keen snow skier and is passionate about horse racing. Samantha grew up in country NSW and is a huge supporter of rural Australia.
