Beijing triple gold medalist Stephanie Rice became the first Australian swimmer to win selection for the London 2012 Olympics at trials in Adelaide. The 23-year-old overcame the dramas of last year with right shoulder surgery for a torn tendon to show her commitment and dedication to make the team heading to the London 2012 Olympic Games.


Australian swimming’s princess as described by many of the world leading media. Steph as she’s known to those around her as all the makings to be one of the most recognisable faces in Australian and World sport.
Rice’s swimming proficiency has been known to those closest to her for many years, however she was still known more for her looks and laid back attitude than for her accomplishments. This all started to change when Steph won Gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual medley at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. It was here that the brunette beauty put the rest of the world on notice that she was not going to be the Anna Kournikova of the swimming world.
Stephanie Rice continued with improvements in the pool with personal bests at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne where she broke the Australian record for the 200 Individual Medley. Rice finished third in the 200m Individual Medley and the 400m Individual Medley behind two of the greats of female swimming in Kristy Coventry and American Katie Hoff.
At the 2008 Olympic trials Stephanie Rice stamped her mark on world swimming by smashing the world records in the 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual Medley. The brunette from Brisbane had arrived on the world stage with a bang. Not only is Stephanie one of the most attractive and down to earth athletes in the world she now owned 2 world records in her pet events. Katie Hoff took the world record from Stephanie which would ultimately lead to a battle royal at the Beijing Olympics.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics saw Stephanie Rice crowned Golden Girl of the pool. In an amazing week for the 20yr old, Stephanie managed to win 3 Gold medals all of which were in World Record times. Steph came away with 2 individual Gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley and the 400m Individual Medley and Gold in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
