Tony Faure's Biography

Tony Faure’s experience as the first MD of Yahoo! Australia & NZ, and CEO of both ninemsn and HomeScreen, together with board roles at Seek, i-select, the Internet Industry Association and others have meant he has a uniquely independent perspective on the changing media and marketing landscape.

Tony is an active investor in growing digital media and marketing companies, a digital strategy advisor and well regarded speaker on the future of media and marketing.
Tony has been passionate about media all his life. He grew up with The Guardian and the NME, edited his own magazine while at university and planned a career in journalism, until he realised that he was better at selling than writing.
His other passions include classic English sports cars; Chelsea Football Club; all kinds of music from Radiohead to the Pet Shop Boys; great novels from Raymond Chandler to Philip Roth; and great wine. His biggest passion – and permanent focus group for digital media – is his family. He lives in Sydney with his wife, four children and a dog (the dog isn’t part of the focus group, although on the internet no-one would know).
Having failed to become a journalist and ending up as a sales guy instead, Tony spent his twenties and a good chunk of his thirties learning how media worked in the magazine industry. He was Publisher of several computer titles when he moved to Australia in 1995.
Around this time, luckily for Tony the internet changed media forever – and he was fortunate enough to be in the right place to see this change coming. As a result he has been very actively involved in the growth of the Australian digital media industry since its earliest days. In 2008 Tony established his own company t-4. Its purpose is to find companies that will be part of the next wave of great digital businesses and help this process by advising and investing.
These are challenging times for media and marketing. The impact of technology was later than in many industries, but has recently been dramatic. Ideas can get up and running quickly, and become widely used, but turning these into viable businesses is often tough.
Tony has worked with many early-stage companies over the past decade and a half and can sometimes help with these challenges. Although he doesn’t know all the answers he certainly has a good grip on most of the questions by now! In the past he has been most helpful in areas of capital raising, corporate strategy, commercialisation, sales, marketing, business development and people management.
t-4 is interested in taking a position in a small group of high potential businesses, where Tony can clearly add value to the management team. He can provide advice on a consulting basis in the short-term but is aiming to invest in all the companies he is involved in the longer term.
