Anthony Hudson's Biography
Top sports commentator, broadcaster, public speaker, quiz host and MC, Anthony Hudson is passionate about his career spanning over 20 years bringing his humour and influence to each engagement. In a media environment dominated by ex-sportsmen, Hudson’s rise from a boy from Bendigo to one of Australia’s leading AFL and sports commentators is quite extraordinary. Anthony called five AFL Grand Finals for Network Ten and a further seven for radio – as well as calling international tennis, cricket, golf, motor racing and swimming.
His calls are always passionate and well informed, providing an accurate and entertaining account of the on-field action. Hudson first made his name at radio 3AW in the mid-nineties calling alongside big football personalities Rex Hunt, Sam Newman and Ron Barassi. His career has now spanned over twenty years calling sport and hosting programs for Channel Seven, Network Ten/One HD and his current partners, Fox Footy and SEN1116.
During Ten’s decade long coverage of the AFL, Hudson called and hosted it’s live AFL broadcasts and hosted popular programs Before the Game and The Game Plan . He was also the voice of swimming for One HD, covering events including the Australian Swimming Championships, the World Swimming Championships in Rome, the Pan Pacific swimming championships in Los Angeles and 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
In 2012, he returned for the relaunch of Fox Footy, and was straight back into action as host of the NAB AFL Draft. Throughout the season, Hudson called two live games each round and was a guest host on AFL 360. On radio, Hudson has been part of the fabric of SEN from its opening day on air in 2004. Today, he is part of the station’s Friday Night Football coverage and the award winning Saturday preview show, Crunch Time. Having regularly worked with names like Hunt, Newman, Brereton, Watson, Walls, Malthouse, McGuire, Schwartz, Helliar, Hughes, McGuire, McAvaney, Cometti, Lyon, Lloyd and Livingstone – Anthony is used to getting the best out of other sporting personalities – but also has plenty of entertaining stories of his own to tell.
Hudson is a well-informed and knowledgeable broadcaster, adept both in front of the camera and as a public speaker where he is an experienced MC, auctioneer, quiz-master and key-note speaker.
