Darryl Brohman's Biography
The ‘Big Marn’ of football Darryl Brohman is a retired representative player and coach of the 1970s and 80s, when Darryl Brohman hung up his boots he successfully turned his attention to a career in the media. Darryl is now a well-known commentator and media personality, with roles on 2GB's Continuous Call Team broadcasts, on The Footy Show, as a guest on the Australian version of the ESPN show Pardon the Interruption and the nationally syndicated summer radio program Summer Weekend Detention.
While Darryl is best known for his outgoing personality, he is also considered to have one of the sharpest brains in football. An accomplished MC and keynote speaker, Darryl's often hilarious tales of Australian rugby league and his big-hearted personality make him an absolute winner in front of any audience.
Darryl Brohman has a long history in rugby league, having made 114 first grade appearances with Penrith and Canterbury - winning a premiership with the Bulldogs in the mid 80s. He represented Queensland in two State of Origin games and was considered unlucky not to have represented Australia.
Darryl played first grade for Brisbane Norths as a 17-year-old and won Brisbane's Rothmans' Medal in 1976. He played for Queensland against Great Britain in 1977 but missed selection for interstate duty the following year. Darryl ventured south to Sydney where he played five seasons with Penrith before joining Canterbury for two premiership-winning seasons. Lack of first grade opportunities saw him return to Penrith; a move that produced another appearance for Queensland in 1986, before he ended his career as a member of the club's reserve grade premiership-winning team in 1987. Brohman later took up lower grade coaching with Brisbane (1988) and Canterbury (1989) and was an adviser to coach Phil Gould at Penrith before pursuing a career in the rugby league media.
Darryl Brohman has worked for several radio stations across Sydney, including stints at 2KA, ABC Local Radio, 2UE, 2SM and 2GB. He was made host on the Nine Network's The NRL Footy Show in 2010, he is a regular columnist with the Daily and Sunday Telegraph newspapers and has been part of the menswear chain Lowes's advertising campaigns.
