Doug Walters' popularity as one of Australia's cricketing legends has continued long after his retirement from first class cricket. He first earned his place in the Australian Test side playing against England at Brisbane in the 1965-66 season. Doug scored 155, after coming to the wicket with Australia 4-125. At 19 years 357 days, he was the third youngest to score a Test Century.
Highlights of Doug’s career include his double century (242) and single century (103) in the same match, against the West Indies at the SCG in 1968-69. Not once, but three times, Doug scored the elusive 100 runs in a session. He scored a century before lunch against a World XI at the MCG during the 1971-72 season , a century between lunch and tea in Trinidad against the West Indies in 1973 and a century between tea and stumps against England at the WACA in Perth during the 1974-75 season.

Doug was awarded an MBE for his services to cricket in June 1975 and during the year 200, he was awarded an Australian Sports Medal, also in recognition for his services to cricket.
Today he is still very much involved in cricket. He participates in many social and charity matches and conducts coaching clinics for youngsters. He occasionally writes articles and does some match commentary.
Off the field Doug was renowned for his humour and love of practical jokes. Doug is a modest man, with an interesting story to tell - even to the non-cricketer.
