Dr Sarah Kelly OAM's Biography
Dr Sarah Kelly OAM is an Associate Professor in Law and Marketing at the University of Queensland and an experienced commercial lawyer. She is globally known for her research, speaking and consulting in the sports field and is also co-leading a research hub at UQ in Trust, Ethics and Governance. She teaches Sports Law and Marketing, has won awards for her teaching and provides strategic mentorship to sports technology start-up companies. Sarah is a visiting fellow at Loughborough University Institute of Sport, London and OP Jindal University, Delhi. Her current research projects are focused upon esports, women's sport, sports integrity and mega-event legacy.

Sarah’s Board roles include Deputy Chair of the Brisbane Lions Football Club, Non-Executive Director for Events Management QLD; Tourism & Events Queensland, Gregory Terrace Foundation Board; Wandering Warriors; and Advisory Director – National Education Advisory Board, AICD.
She was recently appointed as the Qld Chapter Lead of the Minerva Network – a national social enterprise concerned with empowering professional female athletes and sports impacts through mentoring with female business leaders. Asking the right questions at the right time of leading sports and entrepreneurial organisations and people penetrates the issues and opens up genuinely new solutions. This is key to forging the new pathways needed to create the social impact, legacy and sustainability that’s incumbent on sport, now and in the future.
In Sarah’s Non-Executive Director and consulting roles (for public and private sector organisations, and start-up enterprises), she delivers research and expertise across the fields of sports management, sports governance, sports law, sports innovation, sports diplomacy, sports marketing and evaluation of mega-events.

Sarah is passionate about sport and its power and potential. Her genuine curiosity has led to her research and education focus in the field of sports business and several non-executive board roles in the sector. Her goal is to spark meaningful, interactive, sandpit discussion and transformational outcomes for audiences through knowledge and understanding.
In June 2021 Sarah was awarded an OAM in the Queen’s Birthday honours.
As an experienced educator and speaker, Sarah delivers an engaging, interactive and relatable keynote on topics covering leadership, ethics and technology in sport, sport diplomacy and the soft power of sport and how sport can provide important lessons for business.
She is also a seasoned panelist and enjoys providing cutting edge insights to sandpit discussion as a panelist or for a roundtable.
Sarah brings her diverse breadth of knowledge in sport to facilitation of panel discussions or interviews, and thrives on seeking and discovering new perspectives through direct and meaningful discussion.
