Gorden Tallis's Biography
Known as one of Rugby Leagues greatest players ever, Gorden Tallis now also makes a name for himself as a true media performer. Idolised by many for not only his sporting achievements but his loyalty, integrity and passion for the sport he loves, Gorden shares stories and of his career in both sport and media leaving audiences entertained and wanting more.Gorden Tallis is one of Queensland rugby league’s toughest and most inspirational products. Townsville-born Gorden Tallis joined the Brisbane Broncos in 1997, after a 4 year stint with St. George. Labelled the “Raging Bull” because of his fearless, no-holds-barred style of forward play, Tallis played 8 seasons for Brisbane, winning three premierships.
His outstanding and dominant display in the 1998 NRL Grand Final victory over the Bulldogs saw him awarded the Clive Churchill Medal, after being voted the man-of-the-match. He has captained the Brisbane Broncos, Qld State of Origin, and Australian Kangaroo Tours.
In a magnificent career where he played 160 matches in the Bronco's coveted maroon and gold colours, Gorden Tallis retired at the end of the 2004 season. After 12 years of competing at the highest level in rugby league, Gorden Tallis was appointed to the NRL board in 2005. His appointment was well received in rugby league circles and he was hand-picked by the NRL to "invigorate" the game's administration. The NRL's emphasis in recent years has been to adopt a vibrant and relevant approach to the game’s administration and the NRL regarded Gorden Tallis, with his straight talking attitude, as the most appropriate person to bring a player's perspective to the board's administration. Gorden's tenure on the Board concludes in June 2008 due to News Limited's rotation policy of its Board Members.
Since retiring at the end of the 2004 season, Gorden Tallis has embarked on a successful career in the media & corporate world. In 2006 he was introduced as part of the Fox Sports rugby league commentary team - a role which expanded in 2007 and now sees him as a regular presenter on Monday Night Football & NRL on Fox. In December 2006 Gorden also spearheaded the inaugural Harvey Norman Beach Footy event, displaying the vision and creativity which dictated his appointment to the NRL board in 2005.
In 2009 he was appointed assistant coach at the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He was also an integral part of the coaching staff for the indigenous All Stars team in 2010 and 2011.
He also funds and helps organise the annual Gorden Tallis Cup - a weekend junior rugby league competition that attracts 300 young footballers.
