Mark Skaife OAM's Biography

Mark Skaife OAM is one of the most successful drivers in Australian Motor Racing history and a respected media voice within the sport.

Mark was born in Gosford, New South Wales, the son of touring car racer Russell. He began racing carts as a teenager before moving to Melbourne to complete his apprenticeship under the tutelage of Fred Gibson.

Having first earned his stripes in the NSW Ford Laser Series, Mark would forge a career that saw him become one of Australia's greatest ever drivers. During his 22 years behind the wheel, he won five Supercar Championships, six Bathurst 1000s and three Australian Drivers Championships. To add to this unparalleled success, he also broke the all-time record for Round/Race wins which stood for many years after.

Upon retirement, Mark developed the concept and project managed the Supercars ‘Car of the Future’ program, leading an influx of new manufacturers into the Championship including Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. He also served as the inaugural Chairman of the Supercars Commission until the end of 2013. In 2014, Mark was recognised for his contribution and achievements in Supercars by being inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside the sport’s great champions.

His motor industry credentials are impeccable, and his expertise highly sought after as evidenced by his many advisory roles to various companies and motoring groups regarding road safety, vehicle dynamics and driver training. He designed the Supercars Street circuits in Townsville, Sydney and the revised layout on the Gold Coast and New Zealand. He is also responsible for the successful Newcastle Street race circuit.

Since retiring from driving, he has worked as a commentator and presenter for the Supercar series for both the Seven Network and Fox Sports. He remains a respected voice within the sport and a polished media performer and keynote speaker.

Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to motor racing and the community, Mark’s autobiography was released in 2020. Mark was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2024.

Mark is married to wife Toni and has three children, Mitch, Mia & Tilly. Away from the track, he is an avid supporter of the Manly Sea Eagles.
