Matt Shirvington is a well-known Australian athlete who represented Australia at Olympic, Commonwealth and World Championship levels. An inspiration to young and upcoming athletes, Matt Shirvington shares his passion and dedication for his sport and now ‘fitness’ and well-being to corporates.Matt Shirvington is one of Australia’s most prominent track and field athletes. Matt dominated the 100m sprint for five consecutive years, accumulating an enviable medal tally along the way.
As an athlete, Shirvington competed in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay events, finding the most success in the 100m sprint. He competed in the 2000 Olympic Games, the Athletics World Championships from 1999 to 2007 and the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2006.
From 1998 Shirvington claimed 5 consecutive Australian national titles for the 100 m sprint event. In the 1998 Commonwealth Games, he broke an Australian record and finished fourth with a time of 10.03 seconds in the 100 m. This record stood until 2003 when Patrick Johnson achieved a time of 9.93 seconds. He also featured in two World Indoor Championships 60m finals. Winner of five consecutive National Titles in the 100m and five top three finishes nationally in the 200m, Matt had to overcoming a series of injuries.
Matt suffered from glandular fever in 2003. Recurring symptoms forced him to withdraw from the 2004 Olympics, however Matt returned to qualify for the 2005 World Championships and competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
An outstanding career in sport has led Matt to found Shirvington Fitness. Matt uses his knowledge and strength of fitness to provide motivational/ Team building and Wellness sessions to the corporate world or to individual clubs and people.
