Nick Green's Biography
Nick Green is one of Australia's Olympic heroes and was a member of the rowing greats, the Oarsome Foursome. His achievements have been recognised with an Order of Australia and an Australian Sports Medal. In 2012 he went to London as the Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic team.
Nick uses the experiences he has had and the lessons he has learned as a competitive elite sportsman to delivers messages about success, teamwork and leadership that have valuable applications for the equally competitive business environment.
His presentations focus on the importance of team work, maintaining motivation, developing a winning attitude and creating opportunities in a competitive environment.
Nick Green's international rowing career got off to a flying start in 1989 when he joined three other experienced rowers to form the team known today as the "Oarsome Foursome".
The Oarsome Foursome, together and individually, won nearly every honour and competition in rowing, including the World Championships, numerous National titles, and two Olympic Gold Medals.
However Nick's preparation for the 1999 season was hampered by a serious back injury, which saw him announce his retirement, ending the career of one of Australia's greatest rowers.
At the Opening Ceremony to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Nick was invited to carry the International Olympic Flag, in recognition of his outstanding international career. He also worked with Woolmark (Official Uniform Supplier) and was part of the Channel 7 sports team.
Nick continued his significant involvement with the Olympic movement as the Athlete Services Director of the 2002 Australian Winter Olympic team and the Athletes' Commission for the Australian Olympic Committee. He is also President of the Victorian Olympic Council and Chairman of the Victorian Olympic Foundation.
In November 2008, Nick was appointed as the new Australian Chef de Mission for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Nick replaced one of Australia's globally recognised sporting administrators, the Australian Olympic Committee President and IOC Executive Member, John Coates AC. The role gave Nick exclusive authority over the 740 athletes and officials chosen to represent Australia.
Since 2008, Nick has been Group Manager of the Victorian Major Events Company (VMEC). VMEC was established by the State Government of Victoria to win, retain and develop major events for the State and is regarded as a world leader in this field.
