Todd Woodbridge's Biography

Tennis champion Todd Woodbridge is one of the most successful Australian players in tennis history inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Todd is among the greatest doubles players of all time, having won 23 Grand Slam doubles titles, including the most Wimbledon doubles titles ever (9). Todd was also a gold medalist with Mark Woodforde at the 1996 Summer Olympics to complete a career Golden Slam.

Todd Woodbridge hit his first tennis ball at two, played his first tournament at six and decided to be a tennis professional when he was 10. As a junior, he won seven Grand Slam doubles titles. He teamed up with Mark Woodforde in 1991 and together, ‘The Woodies’ become the most successful partnership in tennis history which included a record six Wimbledon victories, winning all the Grand Slams as well as the Olympic games Gold medal in Atlanta in 1996 and the Silver medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

When they won the French Open in 2000, the Woodies broke the record of 57 career doubles titles held by Peter Fleming and John McEnroe and Bob Hewitt and Frew McMillan. All up, the pair won 61 career doubles titles making them the most successful doubles team in men’s tennis history. Todd Woodbridge has also notched up Australian Davis Cup records for the most ties played (29), most years played (12) and the most doubles victories (23). He represented Australian for more years (14 years) and in more ties (32) than anybody in the history of Australian Davis Cup. Todd Woodbridge is the most successful doubles player in history winning 83 career titles, a record nine Wimbledons and a total of 22 Grand Slam titles.

In 2006 and 2007, Woodbridge joined the Seven Network's commentary team for the Australian Open. He also became an ambassador for bowel cancer awareness group "Let's Beat Bowel Cancer". A Cabrini Health initiative.

In 2007, Woodbridge joined the 6th season of Dancing with the Stars, the Australian version. In 2008 and 2009, Woodbridge aligned himself closely to the sailing community through his commitments at Hamilton Island Race Week hosting tennis clinics and wine tasting events.

Woodbridge served as the tournament director for the 2009 Australian Open legends event. In July 2009, he was appointed coach of the Australian Davis Cup Team, taking on a newly expanded, full-time position that merges a role as the national men's coach overseeing the male player development pathway with the Davis Cup coaching job.

 In January 2010 on Australia day, The Woodies were inducted to the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame for their achievements in tennis. As a part of the induction ceremony, their bronzed statues were placed with other great Australian tennis players at the Melbourne Park. In July 2010 The Woodies were inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Today Todd is a popular and gifted commentator as part of the on-air team for Seven’s Summer of Tennis. He has participated in the sixth season of Seven’s Dancing with the Stars and served as Tournament Director for the 2009 Australian Open Legends event. In July 2009 Todd was appointed as Australia’s National Men’s and Davis Cup coach.

Since retiring, Todd also serves as Tennis Australia’s Head of Professional Tennis.
