Besa Deda's Biography

Besa Deda is an experienced Chief Economist and Market Strategist with a demonstrated history of working in financial markets and managing a team of economists and has been recently appointed Chief Economist at William Buck.

Besa was recently the Chief Economist of a group of large businesses in the Westpac Group, including Westpac Business Bank, St.George Bank, BankSA, Bank of Melbourne and BT.

Prior to this role, Basa was the Chief Economist of Australia’s fifth largest listed bank, which saw her become the first female Chief Economist of a bank in Australia.

Prior to this, she had specialised roles in fixed income, currency strategy, macroeconomics and equities at the Commonwealth Bank. Besa has also worked for the Colonial Group in market risk and economics.

She has previously lectured for FINSIA and the SIA and written a regular property column for the Weekend Australian.

Besa sits on the ANU’s Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA) Reserve Bank Shadow Board. Besa is the current Chair of the Australian Business Economists’ Association (ABE), an organisation devoted to fostering discussion on key policy issues.

She is passionate about leading with empathy and inclusion, shaping ideas, helping businesses, and making economics relatable, engaging and easily understood.

Besa holds an economics degree with honours from the University of Sydney and a master’s degree in applied finance from Macquarie University.
