Brad Johnson's Biography
Brad Johnson, former Australian Rules footballer, was considered one of the best forwards in the game due to his overhead marking ability and versatility between the half-forward and midfield positions. Johnson made his football debut in 1994 and was immediately regarded as a powerful, game-changing midfielder. Known as the “Smiling Assassin” due to the perpetual smile, he won three “Best and Fairest” awards (1999, 2002, and 2006).
Johnson played over 360 games for the Western Bulldogs. He was named to the All-Australian All-Star Team in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007, in addition to winning the Western Bulldogs “Leading Club Goal Kicker” award in 2001 and from 2005-2008. He also represented Australia in International Rules Football in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003. In 2006, he was chosen as captain of the Bulldogs and also as captain of the All-Australian Team.
Under his leadership, the Bulldogs made the finals for the first time since 2000. Johnson was selected to represent the Victorian football team in the AFL Hall of Fame Tribute Match in 2008. In 2008, Johnson became the games record holder for the Western Bulldogs, surpassing the existing record with 342 games for the club, and he remains the club’s record holder for most games played (364). Johnson announced his retirement in 2010, and he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
Johnson, now 43 years old, uses his wealth of sports knowledge and vast on-field experience as a Fox Sports commentator as well as being a Specialist Coach for the Geelong FC in the AFL. Brad is also available for speaking and MC work, sportsman’s nights, panels and golf days!
