Chester Osborn's Biography

“I have long nurtured a theory that the best wine creators are slightly crazy – that they inhabit a parallel universe to the rest of us and therefore work with a kind of focus and attention that eludes their more traditional counterparts,” theorises respected UK wine scribe Andrew Jefford when writing about d’Arenberg Fourth Generation Winemaker Chester Osborn.
Since taking over the Chief Winemaker duties from his father at their family owned winery in 1984 Chester Osborne has forged a reputation for doing things differently. A pioneer of new varieties and innovative blends combined with an insistence on traditional vineyard and winemaking practices has seen him become one of Australia’s most internationally recognised and respected winemakers.
Chester Osborn the winemaker however is almost surpassed by Chester Osborn the personality- whose golden curls and loud shirts demand attention. An accomplished public speaker with a flair for creatively illustrating stories with props and cartoons, d’Arenberg dinners hosted by Chester are in demand worldwide. Serious wine connoisseurs will undoubtedly enjoy the experience but Chester will not supply a standard wine dinner - entertainment, humour and a memorable experience are however guaranteed.
In 2005 Chester Osborn was awarded as ‘Wine Personality of the Year’ by the world’s most influential wine writer Robert Parker Jnr.
