Hamish McKay's Biography
Hamish can be cool, calm and collected as his role as sports anchor on the 6pm TV3 News requires, but there is another side to Hamish that he will bring to your event – sharing amusing anecdotes from a great career and using his charm and wit to win over any audience.
Hamish's broadcasting career began in Palmerston North in the early 90's with the ground breaking Radio 2XS (now part of the More FM stable).
A trained Journalist with a Bachelor Of Education and Teaching Diploma, Hamish made his television debut with TV3 on the travel show ‘Time of Your Life’ alongside Petra Bagust, Mark Ellis and Matthew Ridge. After 66 episodes of the top rating show Hamish joined the 3 Sport team in 1998.
Hamish has now commentated more than seventy rugby test matches. His first major rugby commentary assignment was being chosen to commentate the 1999 Hong Kong Sevens final. Hamish is a regular correspondent on radio stations ‘The Rock’ and ‘The Edge’ and currently hosts a Sunday Sports show on Radio Live.
Married with 3 children, Hamish enjoys all sports and his job has seen him travel extensively, covering every major All Black tour over the last ten years including three World Cups. Along the way he has spent a lot of time with legends of the game like Frank Bunce, AJ Whetton and Grant Fox.
