Kate Carruthers's Biography
Kate Carruthers is Chief Data & Insights Officer for UNSW Sydney, and is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science & Engineering.
Kate has extensive experience in senior roles in ICT, marketing, data and digital; and is a member of the NSW Government’s Data Analytics Centre Advisory Board. She is co-founder of several startups and currently advises a number of startups.
Kate is a Certified Information Security Manager and is currently undertaking postgraduate studies in cybersecurity, and is completing her masters in higher education management.
She is co-founder of several startups, and has extensive experience in senior executive roles, working for diverse organisations such as Citibank, General Electric, AMP, Westfield (now Scentre Group), and NSW Treasury. Kate has significant experience in delivery of digital, data, ICT, and change projects across organisations of various sizes.
Previously Kate lectured in postgraduate information systems and accounting at Macquarie University. She also delivered TAFE level courses in business and management in the NSW Department of Finance, Services and Innovation.
Kate is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, a member of the Australian Information Security Association (AISA), and was a member of the Advisory Board for the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Wollongong for a number of years before joining UNSW Sydney. She was also a member of the Telstra Industry Advisory Board.
Over the past few years Kate has been working on the frontlines of the intersection between data innovation and cybersecurity. She was co-founder of several startups, and currently advises a number of startups.
