Matt Hill's Biography

Matt Hill’s career has taken him all over the world, from the UK to Ireland, South Korea, Germany, Czech Republic, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, France and Dubai. Among the many international horse races covered, Matt has called seven Grand Nationals for BBC Radio and was the lead caller for the great race in 2018.

Upon returning to Melbourne, Matt became the lead race caller for Racing.com when, in 2017, legendary commentator Greg Miles hung up his binoculars. He is the regular voice of the Melbourne Cup and calls a catalogue of other events including the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup, along with all of the autumn racing features. In a career highlight, in 2018, he was behind the microphone for Australian sporting history when the mighty mare Winx took home an astonishing fourth Cox Plate. In 2019, Matt was the winner of The Bert Wolfe Award for Broadcasting excellence.

From 2021, Matt has been a regular caller for SEN Radio and can be heard across the airwaves of AFL Nation, Australia wide.

An experienced Olympic broadcaster Matt has been a key member of coverage teams at 6 Olympic Games including Beijing 2008, London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022. Matt was also behind the microphone at recent Paralympics including Rio and Tokyo.

He cites his broadcast of Mo Farrah’s famous 5000 metre win in London as a lifelong highlight.

Matt has broadcast a myriad of Olympic Sports including Track and Field, Equestrian, Rowing, Modern Pentathlon, Tennis, Short Track Speed Skating and Curling for Radio and television audiences.

Whether it’s Horse Racing, Athletics or Speed Skating, Matt is a familiar voice. Since 2012, Matt has taken to the courts as an announcer for the Australian Open as well as being a commentator for Tennis Australia’s world feed.

Highly regarded as an announcer, commentator and master of ceremonies, Matt has been a regular host at international equestrian events and is a familiar voice in eventing and show jumping on Fox Sports.
