Paul Spinks's Biography
Your employees may well be certified to do the job, but how they perform at LIFE itself will determine their effectiveness in the workplace. We all want the most from our lives and to create all kinds of initiatives, but if life itself isn’t humming to the right beat, it’s most certainly not going to hum at work. Money, relationships, work, coupled with our wants and needs, is placing unprecedented demands on our well-being and taking its toll.Paramedic and State Trauma Councillor Paul Spinks, has seen the dark side of what happens when life spins out of control. He speaks on the areas of health and well-being of team members, inspiring change and providing a tool kit to act on - to bring about purpose, direction, retention and meaning into the workplace.
Creating desire for change will be the determining factor of healthy workforces into the 21st Century.
Paul stimulates people to “learn more and know more” about their bodies, their minds, what is happening on the streets, and to challenge the values that direct their life journeys. 82% of us will have a chronic illness by age 65; 68% of us will be dead broke! If that isn’t a wakeup call to take our lives off remote control, I don’t know what is. More focus on our biological and psychological state will better serve our destiny. There is a need for employers to take ownership of this education, because it’s not happening anywhere else. Workplaces especially need to capitalise on this, and improve productivity by providing interesting forums and challenges that are life skill based.
Paul's presentation combines all things money with all things well-being, and hits the “hot buttons” in most of us; including mental health, drugs, cardiac disease and even death - with raw stories taken from the treating chair of an Ambulance. It is confronting, it is personal, it is a Paramedic’s perspective on what’s killing a nation, and an opinion on how to stop the rot!
Paul is an Advanced Care Paramedic for Queensland Ambulance, a State Trauma Councillor for the Australian Paramedic Association and is currently studying Physician Associate Program in Tropical Medicine. He was previously a Board Member for the International Air Transport Association, headed the stage in promoting air safety for aviation seminars worldwide, and as a previous presenter for Channel Seven’s “Brownie’s Coastwatch,” engaging groups is something he excels at.

The key to healthy workforces into the 21st Century - Money, relationships, work and our own wants and needs are placing unprecedented demands on our wellbeing and taking its toll. With 33 million prescriptions for mind-altering medications handed out last year and one in three of us breaking down in some capacity, Paul frequently comes face to face with the end result.
Time to tell it how it is
Ask somebody how they are feeling and you may well get, 'I'm stressed, fatigued or depressed,' but ask them 'why' and you will get all the external factors: kids, workplace, relationships. It's only when we go inside and understand the real 'why' that our world can be managed and changed.
Man sacrifices his health in pursuit of wealth and then sacrifices wealth to recuperate his health
73% of us worry about money more than anything else and it's crippling our mental health and taking its toll on our physical health. Far too often paramedics see the 45-year-old clutching at his chest from stress induced by finances.
